In the first hours of SEO migration, it is advisable to make a checklist dedicated to the project, which takes into account all the technical aspects of a site. There is no absolute model, but you can always take inspiration from the SEO Checklist that I presented in an old article of mine.
In parallel, spiders such as Screaming Frog , Visual SEO , Xenu or that of SEM Rush are useful for scanning the site and for analyzing any critical issues such as duplicate Meta tags, 404 errors or status codes other than 200. Specifically:
- status code 404: the page goes into error and indicates a resource not found
- status code 500: a server problem
- status code 301: corresponds to a redirection, in this case to redirects from the old to the new site
- status code 200: no problems, the page is reachable.
Mixed Content Control
At this stage, especially after a massive c level contact list migration that also included the addition of an SSL certificate , check that there are no mixed contents , i.e. page resources reachable in both http and https . In addition to Screaming Frog, browsers also report these anomalous situations.
Multilingual Sites
If your site has versions in different languages to make personalization more effective you can use or is aimed at international markets , you need to check all the aspects relevant for International SEO . So make sure that the management of lang tags and lang hrefs is organized in the right way.
Beware of Browser Language Redirects, a practice that can generate SEO problems . In fact, automatic redirects based on the browser language can affect indexing on Google. Read this WPML documentation .
Third phase: monitoring
The third phase is the one related to b2c fax control and monitoring . The result of the migration begins to be visible in SERP and in the statistical data. At this point, here are some things to check.
Change domain address on Search Console
If you changed your site’s domain during the SEO migration phase, it is recommended to go to Google Search Console>Settings>Address change and inform Google of the domain address change.
