Today we look back at . World Usability Day 2023 in Stuttgart! After three years of virtual formats .Over 120 participants on site and more than 200 online were able to experience exciting lectures and workshops. The Digital Center Mensch focused on user-friendly design, sustainability and playful learning. Finally back on site: A successful new start .
After three years of online events, the 19th World Usability Day in Stuttgart brought participants and experts together live again. An event that promoted the exchange of knowledge and ideas with a hybrid structure.
Diverse program: From design to accessibility
Nine lectures and six workshops offered participants exciting insights into current topics relating to usability and user experience (UUX) – from accessibility to practical UUX projects. An accompanying event app provided an interactive and hybrid experience for both on-site participants and online viewers.
Workshops with a focus on positive experiences and sustainability .
The workshops of . Mensch focused on well-being in the workplace, conscious interaction with nature and playful learning. A particular highlight was reinforcement learning, which was made understandable using simple, practical methods. concepts for positive experiences in work contexts. In their workshop “Focus on nature”, Anne Elisabeth and discussed with the participants how people can be motivated to interact more consciously with nature and developed sustainable solutions. In the workshop “Understanding reinforcement learning through play”, Franziska illustrated the basics of reinforcement learning using simple materials such as paper and game chips in order to make the principle actively tangible.
Designing for a Better
World”On November 14, 2024, the World Usability Day (WUD) Stuttgart will take place under the motto “Designing for a Better World”. The focus is on how humanity-centered design can contribute to a sustainable and meaningful future. With practice-oriented workshops and inspiring lectures, the WUD is not only celebrating its 20th anniversary, but also offering a platform to discuss innovative design approaches that can overcome social, ecological and economic challenges. Anika Piccolo (née Spohrer) works in the Mittelstand-Digital blue represent hoodie, a mix of style and streetwear Center Focus People in the area of well-being and resilience . She continues her tasks from the former Usability Competence Center and shows start-ups and small and medium-sized companies in the new topic focus how they can design digital technologies in such a way that they promote positive experiences and contribute to the well-being of users.
She dealt in particular with publicly relevant topics and was the contact person for the implementation project Interaction with Artificial Intelligence. As part of pilot projects, she supported start-ups and small and medium-sized companies in dealing with individual questions with regard to usability and user experience (UUX for short) as well as in the implementation and implementation of the results achieved. This included (method) workshops , lectures and the publication of the results and newly used methods (e.g. workshop at the WUD Stuttgart 2019 , publication on the AI Service Blueprint Workshop at the MuC 2020 , lecture at the UIG Conference 2021 , lecture at Digitaltag 2021 , publication in t3n on Wizard of Oz Prototyping ). In addition, she represented the Usability Competence Center at various trade fairs and conferences and has been co-organizing the World Usability Day in Stuttgart on behalf of the Usability Competence Center for several years .
Ms. Piccolo studied information
Design and media research at the Stuttgart University of Media (HdM) . Since April 2018, she has been working as a research assistant at the HdM Stuttgart and is involved in a variety of projects and as a lecturer in courses on the topics of usability and user experience (UUX for short). At the Institute for Applied Artificial Intelligence at the HdM, she and her colleagues are also available to answer questions about human-centered AI and represent the Usability Competence Center as a cooperation partner.
In addition, she is an active member of the “ The Positive X ” working group of the German UPA and supports its work on behalf of the Usability Competence Center.
World Usability Day (WUD) is a global day of action that has taken place annually since 2005 in over 140 cities and 44 countries. The aim is to highlight the importance of user-friendly design. With more than 40,000 participants worldwide, WUD is a central platform for the exchange of innovative ideas on the subject of usability and user experience (UX).
On November 14, 2024, the WUD in Stuttgart will have the motto: “Designing for a Better World” . The focus is on the following question: How can Humanity-Centered Design help to create a sustainable and meaningful future?
